Getting through airport security can be a challenge. Security obviously has to be very tight to keep travelers safe, but it can also be stressful and frustrating when you have to get all of your stuff out.
But there are ways to make it easier, and here are some tips to keep in mind next time you travel through security.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time
One of the best ways to get through security stress-free is to turn up with plenty of time. Things can go wrong, machines can stop working, security issues can slow the line down, and you don’t want to be in a rush.
By giving yourself more time, you can take everything slowly and avoid getting stressed. If you are rushing and in a panic, it’s much easier to get stressed and forget things.
This means you should leave your hotel with plenty of time. If you are staying somewhere like the Marriott Gaithersburg Washingtonian Center, make sure you leave with time to get to the airport and go through security without any problems.
Prepare Liquids and Other Items in Advance
When you pass through airport security, you’ll have to put any liquids you have in a clear plastic bag. You can save yourself time by doing this when you pack.
Also, take out any coins from your pocket and put them in your bag. And put your wallet, cell phone, and any jewelry in your bag before you join the queue, then get your tablets and laptops ready to take out. This can save you a lot of hassle when you start passing your items through.
Don’t Take Bottles Larger than 100ml
If you want to get through security quicker, don’t take liquids in large bottles. 100 ml is the maximum limit, and this applies to gels and sprays as well. Don’t take anything larger or it will be confiscated.
Get Kids Sorted Out Early
Make sure they don’t have anything in their pockets that they shouldn’t have. Check their bags before you leave for the airport, and make sure they are wearing shoes they can easily take off.
Also, prepare them mentally for the fact that they will have to leave their toys for a few minutes so they don’t suddenly panic.
Be Polite and Respectful
Always be polite and courteous to the TSA staff. They are doing an important job, and they won’t appreciate aggressive or angry passengers. Don’t complain during the pat-down—it is a necessary part of the security process.
Don’t under any circumstances make a joke about a security-related matter, such as saying there’s a bomb in your bag—it will be taken very seriously indeed.
Get Through Security with No Problems
Security does not have to be stressful. As long as you prepare well in advance, don’t take anything you shouldn’t have, and arrive with plenty of time, you will have no problems getting through. So enjoy a stress-free trip through security, and have a great onward journey.
